Mentor Stories: Abbie Von Schlegell
Abbie has been working as a non-profit consultant in Berkshire County since 2007. She heard about EforAll through Berkshire County’s Executive Director, Deborah Gallant, and has been a valued mentor since the first local Fall 2019 cohort. Her vast experience in the non-profit world has been proved extremely valuable to EforAll Berkshire County entrepreneurs.
What made you want to become a mentor?
I wanted to share advice and experiences that I had and resources I knew of because people were really great to me when I started my business, and I wanted to do the same for others.
What is your favorite part of being an EforAll mentor?
It is when we can bring up something that is staring us all in the face but that the entrepreneur hasn’t thought of it yet. That part is really rewarding.
What do you think makes EforAll special?
Working with different people, from mentors to entrepreneurs, and the connections it allows us to make are great. Also, the program is built to enable the entrepreneur to make changes along the way, pivot, and still take advantage of everything they’re learning in class. So the knowledge is never lost.
What advice would you have for entrepreneurs?
Keep track of their time, understand that it is crucial. Be very realistic when thinking about what they are trying to accomplish and think harder about the details involved in starting your venture.
